Western Service Workers Association (WSWA) is a free and voluntary private membership association built by and for our membership of low-income service, domestic, in-home care, part-time and temporary workers since 1973. WSWA is entirely volunteer run, without a dime of government or other “strings attached” funds. WSWA seeks to eradicate the poverty status of this majority segment of the workforce and achieve a means to determine our own collective destiny.

It's a volunteer organization that puts in the effort to try and help the community also doing their political part as well and every place isn't perfect but to the individual I would say try the place out for yourself and see how it works to you and if one volunteer organization doesn't feel right to you there's plenty more out there to try

Became a member and active volunteer some years ago, but I wandered in during a time of great need in life. Resources were scarce as I was trying to better myself by going to school. A single parent with little family assistance, I found WSWA as my family. Elena works tirelessly 7 day a week, 365 days a year, with out pay and most times without appreciation. I dont know what I would have done without all the advocac, resources and opportunity to give back.

I love to volunteer here when I can. They have helped me in a time of need. I am a member as well. My daughter loves to volunteer at the Halloween event and the food drive helping put baskets together for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

As a way to help people in need, it is a good spot to start when you're having jitters to volunteer. As for as everything else? Not too smooth.

I've been volunteering at WSWA for almost 3 years and it gets a little challenging with the people in charge. In many cases, they'll say anything to get you to stay with the organization, but they're quick to change those views when someone new or old comes in to help. Somewhat two face if you ask me.

Recently, Chris (AA) has been acting rather moody lately and Elena (president) has been compressing her emotions and giving people bitter answers. What their deal is, I don't know, but it's hurting their image for a lot people I talk to who go there often to help and even though they will smile to hide it; you can still hear it in their voice.

Another thing that bugs me more recently is their Christmas events. I've spoke with an elderly women, Velma, who told me how she and two other elders were assign to wait at the church to collect toys the day before Christmas Eve I believe but they were left in the cold and couldn't get a ride back by the two (above) in charge. Also during a Christmas party, they're organization skills were very poor. Two years ago this event was done a whole lot better but now they're efforts are only declining. The person who had to play Santa and miss is nephew’s funeral had to give an elderly woman a ride home because Elena ditched her.

The last thing I did for that organization was removing used condoms under the sofa from the kid’s playroom. This made me walk away without saying goodbye. I don't even want to know what happens in this place anymore.

I really don't want to say more that will hurt their organization, but it needs to be fixed. My comment is only here for them and others to see because this place needs a lot of work. A bunch of kids who barely know what they’re doing are running WSWA or they're just procrastinating a lot. I don't know, I'm venting I guess but I only speak of my own personal experiences and the volunteers I've spoke with who are always told "if you don't want to do it, you don't have to volunteer."

I hope things get better soon. For now I can only give it two stars for at least helping people.

This is the place to go if you want to do some real charity work. It is also the place to go if you are in need of help yourself. They are an all-volunteer organization that truly believes in helping the poor and the the underrepresented people of our city.

Came to my door, I was really busy, but they insisted I talk to them for 20 minutes. I don't know if they are a legit entity because they have no website or facebook. I am kind of scared they were just stoking out the neighborhood to find out who lives where.
If you live here in Sacto and they come by do not reveal any personal info, they were really digging for it.
